Color Correction

fullsizerenderSometimes you’ve gotta live and learn. That has certainly been the case for me, especially when it comes to paint colors. The first thing we did when we moved in was paint. We’d spent the past four year living in white/cream walled apartments and I couldn’t wait to get some color up on the walls.

We started with the living room and for reasons I can no longer recall, I thought it would be great to make it feel like a cozy cave. I chose two shades of brown (Behr’s: Basketry & Toffee Bar) and went to town. To top it off, I chose faux stone faceplates for the light switches and electrical outlets. Peddy had politely questioned my decisions at the time but, there was no swaying me.

Six years later I decided it was finally time to correct my mistakes. Now, don’t get me wrong, I actually still somewhat like the colors they just don’t fit our space. Our house is surrounded by trees and doesn’t get a lot of sunlight, the little bit that does come through is sucked up by these four dark walls which has certainly achieved that cave-like-feel 24/7. At first I had no complaints, but as the years have gone by it’s become apparent that they are not only drain the room of light but also of life… especially during the light deprived winter months.

So a couple weeks ago I decided it was time to brighten things up a bit. I decided to use a color we already had on hand (Behr’s Cafe Cream). It went a little something like this….

I was pleased that it only took two coats to cover both walls. (Thats why I love Behr’s Premium Plus Ultra paints!) Once we do some repair work on front wall, I’ll be painting that one too. The “TV wall” however, will be retaining its brown color.

I won’t be hanging up the paint brush anytime soon though. Our hallway is screaming for a color change. So stay tune for more updates!
